    The One That Got Away

    By paul | Latest News | 0 comment | 9 May, 2014 | 0

Andy and Chris with Terry looking after them were next in and it didn’t take us long to get set up in the Fig Tree. Hour or so passed and Chris is first in great scrap as normal and Chris had his first Ebro cat on the bank at 68lb.Chris 68lb

Great start and with the river conditions perfect things were looking good for some more. Well shouldn’t of said anything as shortly after the wind got up and  changed direction and no action was had all afternoon. It wasn’t until 4am that Andy was into a fish. This was showing all the hallmarks of a good one as it slowly took line and more and more. 10 minutes in and  there was still a lot of line out but bit by bit Andy was gaining. 15 mins in and the fish was close but hugging the bottom, then ouch it locked up solid. I gave it a pull and by chance it started to come out, after passing the rod back to Andy it was off again very strong slow fight. Then with the leader knot out of the water the hook link parted ohh @@&$%£”s, damaged done in the snag for sure. That was the only action all night.

Morning came strong cold wind, 2 runs on the carp rods but 2 lost fish, not going well as all day nothing was banked. Night came the rods stayed silent the cold wind , strong river current were having an effect so that afternoon we packed up and had a go down the garden at night. Andy quickly landed a small cat and through the night they landed some nice carp 27lb 12oz and 25lb.

Morning and straight after breakfast we were back at the Fig Tree. Just half hour passed and Andy is into a decent fish. Good fight resulting in a 65lb cat well deserved.Andy 65lb

On looking at the fish it became apparent why the fishing had been slow, it was covered in bite marks!!! They were spawning and that normally means the big fish go awol for a week or two. Still both Andy and Chris had PB’s with both cats and carp so not all bad and of course there is always another day!! They did another night at the garden landing more 20lb carp but they were off early morning so that was the last action.

We had a good few days even non-angler Terry enjoying himself,  it won’t be last big fish that gets away!! but that’s what keeps us going back for more so I’m sure we’ll be seeing you again!!

    Until next time Paul
