Always nice to see these guys Mick returning having won last seasons competition and Tony and Nick here to help bring over the tea bags!!!!!!
We started over at the day ticket stretch because the Fig Tree wasn’t producing, on arriving it was obvious the carp were spawning but we soon had 4 carp rods out and a couple for the cats. wasn’t long before they were into the carp by mid afternoon they were up to 6 fish all good mid doubles. By 8pm they were up to 10 fish with 2 lost great first day. Next day back to the same spot, good early action but it faded with them catching 5 carp Tony a good cat at 52lb and Mick 396 cups of tea. No problem because they still had 297!!!!
We had a go that night down the garden so armed with 4 rods, 6 bottles of camping gas and tea making facilities ohh slab of milk all we were waiting for was the sauce pan of water to boil!!!……. no all we were waiting for was the fish to show… not long into dark and the walkie burst into life with Nick advising me the tea was ready… no I mean that Tony was into a good fish.. I ran down to help, hurdled the camping gas dodged the slab of milk to find Tony bent into a corker. After landing a very long cat I noticed it was a know fish…. “Tea Bag” had paid us a visit no no no .. “Lumpy” was here again but after having a large sore on the side of its head (now healed up) It was now putting on weight and up to 96lb.
Tony off and running as he does like a scrap with a cat. We gave the Town stretch one last go but unable to get back in our swim (thanks our little eastern euro friends!!) we struggled but we had some good carp in the bag and time to turn our attention to the “Fig Tree”.
Next day and we were settled into the swim, ovals in place Tea Canteen Up all eager to see if The Fig Tree would be kind to us as the last few trips proved hard going. Well it didn’t take long for Tony to get a screaming run and on a Spod Rod… great fun as it’s a lighter outfit and after the usual fight to the end Tony had another 90lb cat in the bag.
No more action all day, I took Pops back home whilst Tony and Nick settled in for the night. On our return the following morning the cat ropes were dry but the carp sack was in the river so could it be the carp were back feeding??
Removing the fish from the sack revelled a stunning upper 20 common 28lb 4oz falling to Nicks rods great catch.
The lads stayed all day and even done the following night but the alarms stayed silent Mick had a very good fish on the next day but a broken hook!!! resulted in a lost fish!!!
The following days past with us fishing the garden but spawning fish made it hard to get a bite with just the odd carp, until the last morning when two quick bites resulted in a lovely 24lb common for Mick and a 76lb cat for Tony.
The week passed so quickly always does with company like this, but as always we gave it our best shot and ended up with just over 600lb of fish 50 short of last year. I look forward to reading Nicks minutes next year (He always writes me a storey of their trip) can’t write in all the funny moments jokes giggles my sarcasm!! but as always I eagerly wait for your return trip. I have to say I’m going to buy a cow to keep up demand for milk for next year, thank you Crazy Gang yet another proper week just as it should be….
Until next time Paul
