I will explain what “Popici” means later but I have been looking forward to this week as an old friend Peter was coming over with 2 mates. Peter used to live here and arrived about the same time as me but returned home to Slovakia some 2 years ago. So 3 Slovakians in house will we have anything to catch after they’ve been and eaten them all I hear you say, yes is the answer. So quick trip to the supermarket bread lots of cured meats and 35 litres of table wine Happy Days!!!
Off to the waiting Fig Tree and we soon made camp and it didn’t take long for Peter to get off the mark with this mid 70.
That’s great off the mark and more soon followed with them all taking it in turns to play the fish, 2 40’s and another 70lb plus. They intended on staying put for 4 nights so with the first evening coming we got all the rods out 4 cats 2 carp and plenty of bait. I left them to it and returned in the morning to find 3 cats roped up and a nice carp in the sack. Biggest cat was again 70lb plus but the carp was a real Ebro cracker at 39 4oz.
Days passed with the odd fish but it was the nights which produced, each morning on my return cats were roped up and a nice carp in the sack.
This one went 105 lb and turned out to be the biggest cat of their trip but all their fish were quality apart from a small 25lb moggie that they fried for dinner!! I did have a taste but it was a bit earthy not for me. Still the fish came following morning 2 80lb plus cats and a 40lb 2oz common.
Great fishing and was great to see Peter their final totals were 16 cats with 10 being over 70lb and 6 carp with the best being 36, 39 and the 40lb 2oz. as for Popici well its Slovakian for very good or in finer English The Dogs B………ks.
Till next time Paul
