After a hard week before it was time to welcome back James also joining us was Brad and his Dad Graham. Both James and Brad are carp anglers Graham a fruit and veg entrepreneur!!! First night with Graham wanting carp he had the carp rods and us 3!!! yes I was part of the gang were on cat rods. First rod away was to James and after a good fight a 70lb cat was on the bank. Later that evening it was the alarms of Grahams carp rods that woke us up…..hang on what am I talking about both myself and James couldn’t sleep due to the most incredible snoring coming from Brad. I picked up the rod as Graham somehow was asleep!!! I played for a minute when it became clear this was a cat so James jumped up and down on Graham’s head till he got up and still in the land of nod started playing the fish. It wasn’t hanging about and we had to pass the rod around the tree and walk down the bank as line continued to pour out the reel. 15 minutes and still a long way out, 25 minutes and it was close, Graham had now passed the rod over as his arms had given in so both myself and James hauled the fish up the bank. Not as big as we had guessed but at 91lb and a clean un caught fish and on a carp rod a great result.
Next morning Brad woke to find out what we had been up to all night!!! and give Dad a lift with his fish. The next two days went well with some nice carp to Graham, James and Brad some more cats all good ones 60’s 70’s great sport. Soon it was night time again ohh no Brad snoring my god what a racket and also things flying out of Grahams bivie all sorts of noises !!!! I couldn’t wait for the next train to come along!!!! hour after hour me and James played silly word games!!!! no way could you sleep, right lets get lagered……said James!! mate what a night reminded me of the film The Living Dead!!! Then an alarm sounded and James was into a fish, ohh dear off it roared taking all the line off the spool James passed me the rod and said deal with it !! so with eyes closed I locked up the spool and just walked backwards eventually I gained line and passed the rod back and said deal with it!!! over 20 minutes passed when it was clear that James ‘s fish had picked up another line, this in turn was hooked up on a known snag!!! after all that we were stuck solid, fish was still on for 10 minutes as we left it and pulled from all directions but the fish was gone!! Morning came and so did more fish we had some 70’s Brad a 80 but it was my turn on the rods when we had another run! James insisted I took it so I did.. good run then it stopped then it went again and I was about to enjoy what so many of you have this year!! Yes they gave me some stick! don’t do it like that, stop it and more but I know I’m not like that!! and played it like a pro. When it came to gloving it out total amateurs!! ha ha but soon I was lifting up a cracker at 128lb…..sorry James.
The lads enjoyed a few more fish when James was back in, great fight and soon he was to break the “Ton” with a plump 107.
The last day night went with more noise from Brad, me and James played games, morning and Brad finished on a high with a great scrap with another 90lb cat and that was the end. Lots of fish caught me and James need a good nights sleep with Brad fresh as a daisy!!!!!
Until next time Paul
