Hopefully the fishing would pick up, as the Kent Lads had a great trip here last year with big carp and cats. Morning came and we set off to the Fig Tree for more arm aching stuff!!!! Rods all in place but alarms stayed silent……. first two days they were all off the mark but cats of 20lb 30 at a push wasn’t as they had experienced last year. We gave it another night but the next morning the lads fancied a change so off we went up stream to the snaggy swim!!! Didn’t take long that evening the move proved to be the correct choice as Martin does battle with a fish that is pulling back. As always a fantastic scrap and soon Martin is holding up a 96lb moggie at last a decent fish.
Confidence now high lets see if we could get the show on the road!!!! following morning a 40lb was all to show all night. Following 2 days produced small fish again and plenty of lost leads on the snag!!!!!!
Last day was to be had down the garden……a good nights sleep back at base and we awoke to…… torrential rain!!!! what a week just when you needed things to be on your side whollop!!!.. I made paella under the fly free and by the time we had all eaten 4pm ish the rain had eased. 4 rods out quick as poss and just 15 mins in cat rod 2 is away. Martin pulled into it only for it to take off. line pouring out the reel even tightening the drag had little effect as it managed to get to the far bank!!!! Ouch or words nothing to that effect!!! lost it!! Still we got the rod back out and not long after James was in!! Drag tight this fish too made its way towards the far bank but this time James managed to turn it and soon he was holding up a new PB at 86lb.
Paul landed a 35lb cat but that was the end of their trip, very hard going but with good food and lots of beers to ease the pain I’m sure they will be back for another go.
Until next time Paul
