After have most of August as a break it was time to welcome back Chris and Jonathan for their 7th visit. The “Hands off Fishermen” were back in Town and my first job was to open all my Birthday presents they had bought me!! Lots of boilies a very smart new visitors book and a vacuum sealed tub of licorice Allsorts for fish!!!!! Fig Tree was first port of call as it was exactly a year ago Chris caught a cracking big half mandarin which in turn started the Fig Tree ball rolling…. So off we go round 7 and it was Jonathan quite late in the day to get attached to a biggy……usual mad fight and a cracking start as Jonathan had equalled his PB at 105lb
Second day fishing was slow but a couple of small cats were banked and as Jonny’s fish came quite late on there was no need to panick yet! With dark closing in fast we packed away the carp rods first, we started on the cat rods when rod 3 was doubled over and it was Chris’s turn to be attached to a wacker. A proper reel screamer this one, it headed down stream fast and with over 100 yards of line gone in seconds it was a close call to pass the rod round a tree and chase the fish down stream…. but remember Chris is an old hand at this game and soon had it turned and all he had to do is wind it in!!! Some time later it was getting close and when it surfaced for the first time it became aware this was another half mandarin and a big one!!! we weighed the fish before roping it for daylight pics the scales showed 123lb new pb for Chris and a very good start to their trip.
The next two days we were also going to do nights……yes beer burgers and banter nights!!! and surely Jonathan had some good Uni stories for us!! The night passed quietly with beer burgers and some crackers from Jonny…… made dad Chris’s eyes water!!!!I want to go to Uni!!!! with a decent cat I had a 20lb carp. Morning came and went as did the afternoon but night two and Jonathan is into a good fish, great fight and a nice fish of 84lb landed. Morning arrives and Chris is in, this is turning into a great session and trip as after another great battle another “Ton” at 102lb
We left the Fig Tree to have an weekend at the garden swims, that evening we had yet another fine steak meal washed down with more Cava and why not!!! Garden produced some smaller cats and carp but we were a bit short on hitting 800lb for their trip just one more good cat would do it. So with the last half hour and thunder rumbling all around us it was Chris who got the final fish……good fight would it be enough to get them their 800lb????? At 76lb indeed it was and a great finish to yet another very enjoyable trip with Chris and Jonathan. Fishing was great 3″ Tons” , 80, 70 and many others, presents for me (thank you guys) burgers and banter night and what about the licorice allsorts……. every fish caught the pellets were tipped with a fishy treat….Get on em fishy licorice allsorts, could they be the future!!!!!! Really hope you can make it back next year for round 8!!
PS Umm Chris where can I buy some????
Until next time Paul
