Russ arrived expecting some great cat and carp fishing only to be faced with torrents of water coming down from the Segre and effecting huge areas of the river.
No fishing up at Mequinenza or from Riba Roja, Flix down to Amposta!!!!
We set up above to Dam at Riba, the water murky and few fish topping not good. before the flood water a good head of carp were coming out but cold dirty water put a stop to that.
2 days with no fish time for a change (thanks to 2 van loads of Romanians setting up ontop of us at 11pm, noisy inconsiderate bas*%&ds).
With 1 night to go the river dropped by a meter so just a faint chance of getting a rod out in Flix. As before a pellet flicked between the trees just 10 feet out. 2 small cats stopped a blank but we still had “witching Hour”.
That time came and bang on cue rod tipped over and all hell broke loose. Russ who is used to light general fishing was connected to what this Fabulous river is all about. Trying to stop this fish with very strong currents and trees was not easy and the fact this really was the last chance to salvage a hard week pressure on.
Well how we did it we’re not sure but eventually we had the fish curlled up in the net, 5 mins for Russ to recover ” is it a 40″ he asked.
Well better than that 77lb caught in a swim you would have had trouble getting a Chub out of !!
