Arriving on the Thursday morning not alot had happened the night before not surprizing as there had been very heavy rain fall again and the snow melt for sure is still trickling into the river system.

Rods out sit back and see what happens. 1 hour passes and left hand rods takes off ending in a beautiful 25lb 8oz common good start then.

Not alot happened until dark, few fish showing but not as in previous visits, by morning I had had 3 carp to 18lb.

8am rods back out and by mid day 3 more carp to 28lb 8oz were on the bank, already a good session.

The afternoon passed with a few more fish nothing bigger then the 28 already banked but the fish showing now was incouraging.

Evening came and the rods started to bounce about as usual as night fell the rods were off big style. By 9am I was upto 27 carp landed the last 7 had all been 20′s included in these was a cracking 32lb beauty.

I had 3 hours fishing left and they didnt stop by 12 30 I had banked 32 carp, 15 20′s and the 32 fantastic fishing shame I had to wrap the rods up but very pleased.

The last 3 48 hour sessions have produced 72 carp upto 42lbs an amazing tally from a venue which in the past has proved a hard nut to crack.

Next week looking forward to having a go at the cats in Flix, will keep you posted with any wackers.

until next time Paul.

A week has past so after a great trip last time out I thought it would be good to see if the carp are still feeding up at Riba Roja.

Differance this time is the weather, last week 20 degrees but cloudy this week 5 yes 5 degrees wet and a freezing cold wind.

I had company this week in the shape of Dave who quickly got off the mark with a mid double by the end of the first day we struggled up to 5 fish all doubles.

The night past with a couple more fish but compared to last week it was slow but the fish were showing so it was agreed another night was needed.

Friday started damp and drizzly but slowly we picked up the odd fish nothing big though maybe the weather had slowed them up.

As the night came we were up to 10 fish, rods set and a cracking stew to warm us up! both retreated me bivvie Dave motorhome (light weight!).

10 30pm Dave has a run, feels better he said and after a great under the rodtip fight the huge shoulders of a Ebro lump showed in our torch lights.

Beautiful fish which went 39lb s exactly atlast a lump for our efforts.

The night past with 1 lost for Dave poss another good fish and 3 for me 1 being a low 20. 7am Dave (I’ll bring him again!) is into another good fish.

Slow steady heavy fight could it be 2 in a row. Yes it can as I slide the net under another truly beautiful Ebro carp. On the scales this one had no trouble going past the 40 mark settling at 42lb.

We fished on until 1pm, I had as last week a quick run of fish with the biggest topping 23lb. Final totals were 16 carp for me 7 for Dave but he takes the glory with a fantastic brace of carp 39 and 42lbs.

Until next time Paul.

Well happy with getting some fish on the bank I was looking forward to the evening as it stayed cloudy and still there were some very big carp showing.

I didn’t have to wait till the evening as I was fishing with a tight clutch due to the zebras my right rod bounced and was very nearly pulled in!

Well this was something a bit different done it’s very best to reach the back of a bar but a close of the eyes and a tighten of the clutch I just had to stop it. Luckily I did and soon had it charging up and down the margin but still hadn’t seen it.

When it surfaced it was a real treat, these Ebro carp are stunning looking fish and when they are this big a real plus.

It went 38lb 2oz a real cracker, I sacked her for a short time whilst waiting for the photo’s. I went on to fish the following night aswell and by 1 pm the following afternoon reached 25 runs 21 carp landed, 4 20′s the rest mid to high doubles and this truely stunning Common at 38lb 2oz.

Alast something to report keep you posted Paul.

A week after an over nighter proved unsucessfull I had a chance to go back to Riba Roja where some bait had gone in and fish were showing.

I arrived at 3 pm rods out in very hot bright conditions but there were a few showing. 5 pm produced a run where I was cut off on the ever present zebra mussels, quick re rig and out it went again.

Well looked like it was going to be same old same old as up to dusk no action but I was going to do the night and there were some very big carp showing so maybe the night would produce.

By 8am nothing but all night I was being kept up by carp crashing and a huge Wild Boar walking about just metres from my bivvie!!!!

8 30 am re bait still fish showing, 9 am rods away! and I was into my first carp. Not big at 16lb but very welcome.

Well what a change prob due to a weather change as it was cooler and cloudy but by 2pm i

I had 9 runs landing 8 carp to 24lb and still all afternoon to go.

Last week had my first chance to get a decent session in. 2 nights at Riba Roja produced no fish. Very few showing and with water temp at 5 degrees those that were weren’t feeding.

Snow melt now the culprit on top of all the rain water the river has been in full flow for over a month now.

With 3 days of the session left up stream we went with Fayon the prefered venue. I had a look round with the fishfinder no fish in our prefered swim and water temp of again 5 degrees even the Matarranya was feeling the cold.

Further up stream we went, passing the dam at Mequineza which had 3 doors open (impressive sight) on up to Caspe. Here ive never seen so much water, very nearly full and previous swims totally under water. We settled for a bay facing away from the very strong wind which was making waves which could sink a battleship. Conditions real pants but with 2 nights ahead of us and the sun in our faces and a chance af a wacker “So Wot”.

The wind blow day and night up until the morning we were leaving, flat clam and a chance to spot any fish. A few did show in the main part of the river so Rob quickly put his baits on the showing fish.

We gave it a good few hours while we packed away but it was not happening, the water temp got the better of us for sure. Well there is always next time and there was a nice sunset and it’s not always about catching! if I keep telling myself that i’ll believe it one day!

The Ebro is still flowing hard, the local paper Diari Ebre reported that the reservoir Mequinensa – Riba Roja is now 92% full ( some 1,424 cubic hectare meters of water!) this is after 2 years of very little rain. Although the river here in Flix is still over it’s banks it has dropped by a metre but still has 1000 cubic metres per second !! passing through.

I had a look at Riba Roja on Monday but with 5 doors of the Dam here open there was a strong tow to the water so left it for now.

As soon as is possible I’ll let you know when the rods will see some action!!!
