The Key to Managing Holiday Spending
So you are stressed out at work and want to spend a few days off just to be with friends, family, or yourself. You have already filed in advance your day off and are currently preparing your budget. You are thinking of ways on how to spend the holidays without taking out too much money and, at the same time, planning to bring home memorabilia of your latest vacation for the ones left behind. You are trying to make sure that you already have the needed cash just enough for travel and whatever comes your way. But are these enough?
- Start Saving Early
- Plan Your Spending
- Notes on Credit Cards
Saving early allows you some breathing space for anything that might happen, like emergency and additional things to buy like souvenirs. It also allows you to be flexible in a sense that you can go to any place near your holiday destination if in the case that you wish to go there.
You may have already done this by the time you are reading this article. When you plotting out your possible expenditures when you get there or when you are on your way there, consider the people who might come with you, like friends and family. If you are bringing little kids along, check their needs like diaper, vitamins, and milk. If you have special conditions that require you to take medications, allocate money just for this as well. Even before you get there, make your kids understand that there will be a set spending limits on their demands.
If you are planning to travel abroad, inform the bank in advance to make sure that your plastic is allowed in that area. Calling in allows the bank to activate the card for foreign purchases. Credit card usage should be kept at a minimum, such as emergencies. Take note of any and all charges accrued for foreign purchases for these may be very expensive for you to pay in the end.
